Arrive in Mumbai today, where accommodation is held from 12 noon.

MUMBAI

Morning excursion by motor launch to the 2nd century Elephanta Caves (closed Mondays/one hour each way). Afternoon tour of the busy thoroughfares, the waterfront, the famous open air laundry and the Botanical Gardens.

DAY 3

MUMBAI TO AURANGABAD

Morning free for personal explorations. Evening fly to Aurangabad.

AURANGABAD

Morning excursion to the 2nd century BC Ajanta Caves (closed Mondays – 204 km round trip/2 hours drive each way) whose rock cut temple architecture and frescoes present one of the most celebrated faces of ancient India.

DAY 5

AURANGABAD TO UDAIPUR

Morning excursion to the sixth century Ellora Caves (closed on Tuesdays. 68 kms roundtrip / 45 minutes each way) , highlighted by the great Kailasanatha temple. In the afternoon take a flight to Udaipur.

UDAIPUR 

Morning flight to Jaipur. In the afternoon, explore the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the old city bazaars (closed/Sundays/holidays).

 JAIPUR TO AGRA

Drive east to Agra (224 km/ 5 hours plus sightseeing time), visiting the celebrated medieval Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri towards the end of the journey.


Known to exist since prehistoric times, Agra came into full flower during the 16th and 17th centuries as one of the four capitals of Mughal dynasty. Descended from the Timurids in Central Asia, the Mughals conquered Delhi in 1526 which resulted in three centuries of dynastic rule that ended in 1857. It was in Agra that the artistic excellence of the Mughals reached its zenith at a time that coincided with the political high water mark of their vast and expanding empire. Agra today exudes the atmosphere of a provincial town engaged in trade and manufacturing, its heyday well behind it.

Morning tour of the Taj Mahal (closed Fridays), the magnificent Red Fort and the Moonlight Garden. In the afternoon, drive to Delhi (192 km/4 hours).
