Journey to the Golden Temple

Spiritual and Cultural Trials
10 Days

Private tours to North India

An unusual side of northern India - away from the typical routes
and well-known sights - are the states of Himachal Pradesh
and Punjab. Much of this tour covers the lower reaches of
the Western Himalayas and the rivers of the Punjab. From
Chandigarh, India’s first contemporary-looking city after
Independence, travel by narrow gauge mountain railway to
Shimla, the erstwhile summer capital of the British Raj, then into
the beautiful Kangra Valley with its lush fields of wheat and rice
and bounteous orchards (also, Dharamsala can easily be visited
from Taragarh). The finale: the sacred frontier town of Amritsar,
the spiritual capital of the Sikh community, crowned by the
sublime Golden Temple.

DAY 1

DAY 2

CHANDIGARH/ KALKA/ SHIMLA

At leisure till the short transfer to Kalka for the midday train to Shimla (alt 2,130m), a five hour journey. Stay two nights at Shimla, or at nearby Mashobra.

DAY 3&4

SHIMLA

Two days to experience the “Queen of the Hills” of the Raj era. Walk The Mall to view its attractions, take excursions to nearby scenic and holy spots, or take optional guided walks in the environs of Shimla.
