The Gardens of Kashmir

Stroll through some of the most pristine gardens in the valley
7 DAYS

Private tours to North India

The famous poet Amir Khusro aptly described Kashmir when he wrote –“if there is a paradise on earth it is this, it is this, it is this”. Discover the paradise for yourself by taking a trip into the heart of the Kashmir valley.
Srinagar is compelling in its beauty with its clear blue sky, the rippling lakes and streams, the meandering river and the lush green meadows. The kaleidoscope of colour with the beautiful houseboats and canopied shikaras on Dal Lake provide a wonderful contrast to the idyllic gardens, leaving you spellbound.

DAY 2

SRINAGAR

Early morning excursion to Char Chinar Island (1641CE), created by a Mughal governor of Kashmir. During the morning, visit the gardens of Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, Persian in inspiration and Mughal in design, before continuing to Chashma Shahi (Royal Spring) and Pari Mahal. In the afternoon, your shikara glides through areas of old and rural Srinagar for great close up views of local folk and their ways of life.

DAY 3

SRINAGAR

Today’s heritage tour (Sundays excepted) takes you into the heart of old Srinagar, its people, culture and religion that exude the essence of Kashmir with Persian and Central Asian flavours. Gardens, mosques, Sufi shrines, medieval bazaars, characteristic wooden buildings and the famous bridge across the Jhelum fill your sights and senses.

DAY 4

SRINAGAR

A long day’s excursion (about 200 km roundtrip) is made to the Mughal gardens of Verinag and Achabal. Verinag, where the Jhelum originates, was shaped and embellished into a formal garden by the emperor Jahangir. Achabal took the design and function of the Mughal gardens to greater heights. Kashmir’s fantastic scenery is much in evidence during the day.

DAY 5

SRINAGAR

An early morning excursion by shikara to the floating market on Dal Lake where traders gather around dawn to sell the land’s bounteous crop vegetables, fruit and flowers. Your boat glides through the early morning mist, against the backdrop of the surrounding mountains bathed in the first light of day and the call to prayer from lakeside mosques as Srinagar awakens to a new day. Later, travel north through beautiful countryside to Manasbal Lake (60 km round trip). Visit the ancient temple and fortress in its periphery and travel by boat to Nur Jehan’s island garden of Darogha.
